Why Are Some Afraid of the Side Effects of Quitting Smoking?

It has been 50 years since the Surgeon General took a good look at smoking and its side effects and determined that smoking is bad for your health. In 1969, the first labels on packs of cigarettes went out, warning people about the side effects and dangers of smoking. Today, we know more about addiction and why people who have been smoking a long time have a hard time quitting. But what is it they fear? It is the fear of the side effects of quitting smoking.

If you look at it, it’s almost laughable that smokers who don’t want to quit fear what happens when they quit, rather than fear what happens if they continue smoking. Yes, nicotine withdrawal is not fun during the first few days and week, but it is not permanent. For some, it will be severe so their activities might be curtailed. There might be mood swings, anger and anxiety that will affect productivity, so it’s better to stay home. Some may be impaired that judgment becomes impaired, too.

But just read blogs and smoking forums and see what others are saying about side effects of quitting smoking. If they could do it, so can you! It won’t be easy, but it gets easier over time.
